I made this beautiful garment in my Flat Pattern Production class. We started the semester by learning how to do simple pattern-making drafting. Then once we got the basics down our teacher allowed us to make first our half-scale garments and then our full-scale garments from scratch. I drafted and sewed for what felt like forever. When trying to decide what garment I was going to make for this class I realized that it needed to be something that was challenging to me. I wanted to really push myself. My freshman year I made a plaid button-down shirt (you can view this on one of my previous blog posts), and even thinking about that production process still gave me nightmares. So, I decided to create something similar, but make it much more me. I chose a long sleeve double-breasted blazer dress. As you can see this definitely didn't turn out to be exactly what I wanted, but the whole point in doing these kinds of projects is to learn from my mistakes. I know now that when I'm making my own custom garment I have to account for my freakishly long extremities during the drafting phase.
